June 2nd, 2009 marks 169th birthday anniversary of Thomas Hardy, British novelist, short story writer, and poet of the naturalist movement. Thomas Hardy portrayed the period just before the impact of railways and the industrial revolution on the English countryside. His works expose him to be a kind and gentle man, aware of the pain people endure in their struggle for life. His writings may be considered rough but capable of immense power.
