Shields, Carol: Dressing up for the Carnival, New York: Van Nostrand, 2000

Wraps. About Fine. First Edition. Advanced Reading Copy (ARC). ISBN:0670889210. Dressing Up for the Carnival is a witty performance in which Shields occasionally thumbs her nose at the very notion of the traditional short story (much as she tinkered with novelistic protocol in The Stone Diaries).

Haley, John Williams. THE OLD STONE BANK HISTORY OF RHODE ISLAND, VOLUME III. Providence RI: Providence Institution For Savings, c. 1939.
Several small, dark brown stains on and near the fore edge of the front cover, moderate over-all binding soil. The color is worn from the tips of the fore corners and the top/bottom of the spine, but nowhere is the cloth worn through to the boards, otherwise minor binding wear. Binding is sound. Endpapers are foxed, as are the photos and the pages facing them. Small brown stain on p.219 is echoed faintly on pages 216-222. Otherwise contents are clean. No DJ. ; Medium gray cloth, black lettering. Frontispiece & 4p of b/w photos. HISTORY. Selected stories adapted from the series of radio broadcasts presented, since 1927, by the Providence Institution for Savings, under the title of "The Rhode Island Historian of the Old Stone Bank. " This volume includes a few of the chapters published in Volumes I and II in order to provide you with a fairly broad picture of important people and events in the annals of Rhode Island. By no means suggesting a complete history of the state, these accounts, arranged chronologically as nearly as possible, are offered with the hope that they may tell the true story of Rhode Isalnd and its people, in an entertaining manner. ; 9-3/8" Tall; 241 pages.

Hardcover, Good.
