The leather over the joints connecting the front and back covers to the spine is worn and the bottom two inches of the front joint is cracked. The very tips of the fore corners are worn through to the boards. The spine is generally a little darkened, with the bottom 1-1/2" very dark. Three of the eight illustrations are missing. Text is clean and unmarked. ; One-half light brown leather, gold lettering, five raised spine bands, marbled boards, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. POETRY. Five full-page illustrations with tissue guards. Appendixes contain Early and Uncollected Verses, Poems Printed in the "LIFE OF WHITTIER, "and a List of Mr. Whittier's Poems, Arranged chronologically. Separate indexes of first lines and titles cover all four volumes. Many of the pages are unopened and will need to have their fore edges carefully cut in order to read the text on the next page, a strong indication that the book has never been read. Included are nine poems by Elizabeth H. Whittier. ; 7-3/4" Tall; 453 pages.
