Hasle, Geir / Lie, Knut-Andreas / Quak, Ewald: Geometric Modelling, Numerical Simulation, and Optimization Applied Mathematics at SINTEF, Springer-Verlag GmbH, Juni 2007 ISBN: 3540687823 NEUBUCH!
This edited volume addresses the importance of mathematics for industry and society by presenting highlights from contract research at the Department of Applied Mathematics at SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia. Examples range from computer-aided geometric design, via general purpose computing on graphics cards, to reservoir simulation for enhanced oil recovery. The book also discusses local wind predictions to increase aviation safety, sustainable long-term forest treatment, and optimization of natural gas value chains. The contributions are written in a tutorial style to provide material for educational purposes, such as a course or seminar on industrially relevant mathematics.

No writer, native or foreign, has hitherto undertaken to embody the chronicles of these countries in a uniform and connected narrative; so as to exhibit under one view the state of government and society in ancient and modern times, the condition of the inhabitants and the productions of the soil, their institutions under barbarous ages, and the progress they have now attained in literature, arts, and civilisation." Sorensen, Virginia (Eggertsen): Kingdom Come, A Novel of Nineteenth-Century Denmark, New York Harcourt, Brace 1960
Very Good Fleming, Gary (jacket design)
Stated first edition. Blue cloth boards with decorative spine in orange, and turqoise bands with decorative Danish cut-out patterns, silver titles. 497 pp. Portrait of the author by Charles LaRoche in rear flap. Decorative dustjacket in Danish folk art design by Gary Fleming. Spring in Denmark, 1850, and a girl of sixteen, somewhat spoiled but wholly enchanting, falling headlong in love with a stalwart, redheaded, handsome youth -- this is part of the special magic in the opening pages of Kingdom Come. This vivid evocation of nineteenth-century Denmark illuminates an unfamiliar, fascinating fragment of history: the Danish conflict with Prussia over Schleswig-Holstein; the social unrest and spiritual ferment of the period; the arrival in Scandinavia of Mormon missionaries. Sorensen grew up in a Utah valley that was called "Little Denmark" by settlers who came from Scandinavia. A Guggenheim Fellow, Sorensen went back to Denmark in 1954 to investigate what brought these settlers to Utah as Mormon converts. Most of her previous novels were about the American West, including A Little Lower Than the Angels, Many Heavens, and Miracles on Maple Hill, for which she won the Newbery Medal in 1957. Gift inscription on ffep. Dustjacket is chipped top and bottom of spine, with other small tears and has been repaired, where possible, with archival tape. Very good in attractive decorative cloth, in a fair dustjacket, protected with a mylar cover. First Edition Fair Decorative Cloth 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
